Rider Safety Notice
RIDE is beta software for riders. This draft explains how to use it safely and will be finalized before the rider beta opens.
Read this firstDo not rely on RIDE for emergency response, crash detection, legal compliance, road awareness, vehicle control, or medical decisions. Call local emergency services directly in an emergency.
This notice is a draft and is not yet effective. The effective Terms of service, section 4, covers motorcycle safety and lawful use.
1. Set up before moving
- Plan a route, select a layout, adjust settings, pair devices, and review permissions while stopped in a safe place.
- Use a mount and setup that do not obstruct view, controls, lights, steering, or the rider’s ability to operate the motorcycle safely and lawfully.
- Check device battery, heat, connection, and mount condition before relying on an optional display.
- Carry an independent way to navigate and obtain help if the device, signal, app, or accessory fails.
2. While riding
- Keep attention on the road and maintain control of the motorcycle.
- Do not operate a phone or watch while moving when doing so is unsafe or unlawful. Pull over and stop safely before changing a route, setting, or display.
- Follow traffic laws, signs, conditions, and official instructions. They take priority over any app display or route suggestion.
4. Sensor readings and estimates
- GPS and device-sensor information can be delayed, inaccurate, unavailable, or affected by signal, mounting, vibration, calibration, heat, hardware, and operating conditions.
- Speed, lean angle, and other readings are for information only. They are not targets: never ride harder to improve a number, and do not use a reading as the basis for a safety, legal, insurance, racing, or medical decision.
- Use the motorcycle’s required instruments and your own observation and judgment.
5. Emergency support
RIDE does not detect crashes and is not a rescue or emergency-services system. In an emergency, use your phone or another available method to contact local emergency services directly.
Some screens have shortcuts that open your phone’s messaging or dialer app. They only prepare the message or number; you still have to send the message or place the call.
6. Devices and accessories
- Phones, watches, batteries, mounts, sensors, and networks can fail or become unavailable.
- Heat, charging, vibration, rain, mounting, and device compatibility can affect devices and their readings. Follow the device and accessory manufacturer’s guidance.
- Heart rate and other sensor displays are not a medical device or medical advice.
7. Ride within lawful personal limits
Wear appropriate protective equipment, follow applicable law, and choose a ride appropriate to the rider, motorcycle, road, weather, and conditions. RIDE does not replace training, judgment, or professional emergency or medical assistance.
8. Related documents
This notice goes with the Terms of service and Privacy policy, which are effective, the Support page, and the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which is a draft for the rider beta.
